“It is not about counting the miles. It is about making the miles count” – With this sentiment firm in mind the WMO YW India chapter triggered its campaign ‘Run Sana Run’ for a highly relevant cause – Women’s Empowerment.

Ms. Sana Shakoor (WMO, India Chapter Youth Wing Chairperson) ran the Mumbai Marathon on the 18th of January ’15 to support MBS in Lohara.

The Madrasah Al-Banatus Salehat (MBS) situated at LOHARA, a village approximately 35 kms from Akola, India – works towards creating an Islamic Center, where girls are provided with islamic & worldly education. MBS runs english school, junior college of arts & science and vocational courses like stitching, embroidery & computer programming. MBS is also very active in social activities like widow funding program, providing resources for marriage of poor girls & offering free of cost medical treatment at their charitable clinic. Also, 3 square meals a day are given to the women. Their future plans include setting up a nursing college, an old age home, an IT college & a hostel for their school & college students. We are certain this will bring about a change in the lives of many women for the better.

The WMO India chapter is now supporting MBS for their remarkable Initiatives.

Members of the Youth team had arrived the marathon venue in matching caption T-shirts to cheer for an undaunted Sana as she ran for women empowerment.

FOR EACH GRUELING KILOMETER OF THE MARATHON THE YOUTH TEAM COLLECTED $100

For each Grueling kilometer of the Marathon the Youth team collected $100. Thereby collecting USD 2100 for 21 kms. In this way we hope to be a part of the radical changes that this centre is bringing about in the lives of underprivileged women. After all empowering a woman means empowering the community.
